Schott Systeme Retain 12 Year CAD/CAM Price Freeze

MUNICH, Germany, Nov 9, 2009 – Helping mould and tool makers to remain competitive, German software developer Schott Systeme GmbH has frozen their pricing for the 12th year running. To coincide with this, the company are also launching a raft of new design and machining functions within their latest Pictures by PC 3.4 CAD/CAM software release.

Outlining the company's pricing policy, company founder and owner Hans-Joachim Schott states, “Our aim is to enable our customers to invest in the very latest CAD/CAM technology, for every single CNC machine tool, while keeping both purchase and operating costs at a bare minimum.” This policy means that their complete mould tool package for design and machining continues to remain under €10,000. With ongoing maintenance costs also being a major consideration, Hans-Joachim Schott continues “Our customers have to earn money with us, so we have retained our 25 year old policy of not charging for yearly maintenance, instead offering free life time support, while giving our customers the choice of when they wish to purchase major upgrades.”

Focusing on their latest software release, Schott Systeme has concentrated on streamlining both the mould tool design and manufacturing process. Starting with the quick and ‘clean’ import of customer models, the software now includes the very latest versions of STEP and 3D IGES Solid import formats. Moreover, for customers having to deal with poor quality data, considerable thought has been invested in simplifying actual model repair with an entirely new range of surfacing and healing tools. For the more extreme cases of creating core and cavity designs from STL models, the Pictures by PC ‘Tribrid’ mixed modelling suite also sees a number of improvements in both mesh analysis and repair.

Progressing on from design, the quick and efficient generation of mould machining sees Schott Systeme making two major changes in their software line up. Heading this up is multi core processing, using the very latest technology to achieve considerable speed gains during toolpath generation. During recent tests, gains of between 30-50% on dual core PC’s, and from 40-60% on quad core versions were achieved on a regular basis. To accompany this, the second major enhancement includes advanced ‘Freeform Feature Recognition’, whereby typical complex mould features such as tapered walls and freeform chamfers can be instantly extracted from the model for machining.

The company will be using this years Euromold exhibition in Frankfurt to both celebrate their 26th anniversary, in addition to showcasing these latest CAD/CAM enhancements. Visitors are welcome to visit them from 2nd to 5th of December in Hall 11 on Stand C63.
