Schott Systeme Demonstrate `Large Assembly Modelling´
|
|
Catering for designers who are required to model extremely large assemblies such as factory production lines, German based software developer Schott Systeme have released a new online video highlighting the innovations found within their CAD/CAM software 'Pictures by PC'.
|
|
Local
Modelling
Taking an
entirely different approach to that of parametric software products, where the complete construction history of a design can dramatically slow performance, Schott Systeme firstly showcase their 'Local Modelling' tools.
A more dynamic approach to modelling, these tools enable parts and assemblies to be quickly constructed, positioned and changed without
the requirement for any type of parametric history or constraints. Obvious advantages of such an approach
include a dramatic reduction in file sizes, in addition to the ability to locally change imported models,
regardless of the original CAD system they were constructed in.

Part References
In
addition to the large reduction in file size achieved by not using a 'feature
history' approach, Schott Systeme have also introduced a new method of
duplicating similar parts using object references. Shown within the video
below, a customer's assembly containing in the region of 1500 components is referenced an additional 8 times,
resulting in a total file size increase of only 2KB.
