Schott Systeme Include Feature Drilling
|
|
In a move to dramatically reduce the time from CAD part to drilling, German CAD/CAM developer Schott Systeme GmbH are including a free suite of drilling feature recognition tools within their standard design and machining software 'Pictures by PC'.
|
|
The Forgotten 2D CAD Drawing
With many CAM software companies only focussing on the automatic drilling of 3D solid models, Schott Systeme have taken a lead by offering feature recognition for the drilling of 2D drawings. Working on both their own vector CAD format as well as imported DXF drawings, the tools search for and group together holes of a similar size for drilling. The user then needs only to select a drilling sequence such as
'center-drill-ream', afterwhich this operation is applied to all of the
grouped holes, regardless of their number.

Working with 3D Solids
Schott Systeme are also quick to point out that solids have not been forgotten when it comes to drilling. Based upon their freeform feature recognition tools launched early last year, the software also finds and groups together holes of a similar size on a 3D model. Importantly holes requiring different workplane setups are all found, with the software able to
differentiate between hole types such as drilled, blind and counter bored. Drilling depths are also automatically calculated and subsequently used by the drilling
operation.

About Schott Systeme GmbH
Having developed the same software solutions for over 25 years, Schott
Systeme can claim to be one of the very first founders of the CAD/CAM
market. Seen very much as an innovator within both the CAD/CAM and
'Graphics' field, the company continues to develop their fully integrated
CAD/CAM solution ‘Pictures by PC’ in addition to their OEM product
‘IsyCAM’ for ISEL CNC machine tools.
