Schott Systeme Showcase 5 Axis Machining at AMB
|
|
As part of the AMB exhibition in Stuttgart on 19th - 23rd September, German CAD/CAM developer Schott Systeme GmbH will be showcasing some of their latest 5 Axis simultaneous milling techniques. The 2,500
Euro module integrates seamlessly within their standard CAD/CAM software
'Pictures by PC' and helps to improve on both surface finish and tool
wear.

|
5 Axis
Finishing
Firstly catering for the milling of near vertical sidewalls, their 'Swarf Cutting' enables machining with the
tool sides in effect allowing one-pass machining. Most importantly, this technique helps to give both a better surface finish, in addition to reducing the amount of
milling required compared to normal Z level finishing. To compliment this,
their 'Chamfer Machining' forces the tool to follow a 3D path while cutting perpendicular to a face (with the tool end), ideal for machining features such as freeform chamfers. Also noteworthy is
'Curve Orientated' milling, whereby 3D curves help to smoothly guide the tool over the surface without sudden changes in direction, improving both finish quality and also removing surface
marks.

5
Axis Machine Simulation
To compliment the 5 axis finishing tools, Schott Systeme also provide the possibility of simulating the complete CNC machine tool. Although not a new feature amongst high end CAM systems, here the simulation is calculated directly from the generated NC code, as opposed to the CAM toolpath geometry as is often the case. The result is a simulation that is 100% accurate to the original NC code, and one where the customer can accurately visualise the machine movements.

About Schott Systeme GmbH
Having developed the same software solutions for over 25 years, Schott
Systeme can claim to be one of the very first founders of the CAD/CAM
market. Seen very much as an innovator within both the CAD/CAM and
'Graphics' field, the company continues to develop their fully integrated
CAD/CAM solution ‘Pictures by PC’ in addition to their OEM product
‘IsyCAM’ for ISEL CNC machine tools.
