Schott Systeme - Automatic Gear Creation and Machining

Highlighting many of the automatic design and manufacturing features within their CAD/CAM packages 'Pictures by PC' and 'IsyCAM', German software developer Schott Systeme have published a new video outlining their 2D gear creation and milling.

ISO/DIN 867 Gear Creation

Removing the need to create multiple variants of a 2D gear profile, Schott Systeme provide a routine to automatically draw a gear profile adhering to ISO/DIN 867 standards. Using their in built procedural language tools, the routine only requires the user to define a number of criteria relating to the gear parameters, after which a 2D gear is created.

Gear Machining

With the Schott Systeme CAD and CAM tools being tightly integrated in one software product, the process of machining (milling or wireEDM) such a 2D gear profile is then effortless. Simply but powerful, the user can choose from one of the standard CAM sequences complete with tooling, adjust machining parameters specific to milling the gear, and then resave this setup for later use. Selection of geometry, stock material and a CNC machine is all that is required to create the NC program.
